Stairs: It's All in the Details

No longer are stairs just used as a purely functional piece often covered with carpet, or maybe linoleum with those fancy rubber nosings. Now we often see stairs as a focal point of a space, becoming an art form of their own. Whether it's done through use of material, beautiful engineering or little details that make all of the difference, stairs have evolved into a form of their own.

Baluster Detail

The mix of wood and iron, warm & cool tones adds interest within itself. Balusters often attach to trim on the stairs, which is a less expensive and less time-consuming option. On these stairs the balusters are milled directly into the hardwood floor. This detail proves to be a beautiful aesthetic due to expert craftsmanship. The simplistic geometric form provides a minimalist look, while maintaining interest.

Trim Detail

By not having nosings, these stairs maintain their linear and minimal appearance with added interest through trim on the sides. The mitered joint on the trim provides a sleek, minimal and uniform look. The detail is accentuated in contrast to the neutral tones that accompany it.

Handrail Detail

The geometric form and mitered aspects of this railing evoke a feeling of balance within its continuity, which is imperative for successful design. I love the contrast in colours and tones within the stairs and the attention to detail in craftsmanship and design makes all of the difference.

This beautiful stair detail was done by Floorscapes Inc. with careful craftsmanship in milling for the railings, installation & finishing.
